Water Fasting Day 3

Blessings all! :)

Into day three!!!! Hope you enjoy it much!!

Whew… with day three comes more info on why someone may fast as well as going deeper into Why I am fasting.

There is so many reasons for fasting, physical, mental/emotional, or spiritual, as well as in conjunction with a chronic or a serious acute medical condition all can be vastly helped. Fasting free’s up a ton of nerve energy as well as enzymatic function to be redirected to cleaning up/detoxifying and the rebuilding our tissues as well as self healing. The process of Catabolism, or the break down of many types of tissues (including fat deposits, abscesses, dead and dying cells, bumps and protuberances, damaged tissue, calluses, small skin abscesses/boils, morbid accumulations, growths, and amazingly, various kinds of abnormal growths of tissue, or tumors), and Anabolism or the rebuilding of tissue is constantly going on within our bodies. When we fast or eat simply, much nerve energy as well as enzymes (the catalyst to many bodily functions and processes) are able to be diverted to these process’s. Anabolism is powered by Catabolism (also see Autolyze, or self digest), where large molecules are broken down into smaller parts and then used to build up new and existing tissues and organs.

Its interesting to note we have a “amino acid pool” that we can draw from during fasting as well as in regular living. For instance if we fast or eat in such a way that for a time some of  our essential amino acids aren’t taken in those amino acids can be taken from our “amino acid pool” derived from catabolism completing amino acid chains to make up protein structures in our body. With this breakdown any minerals that are still viable may also be reused in building new tissues, our bodies are like nature itself the original recyclers. This is in part why people in the ICU or trauma ward in a hospital people arent given protein and minerals when they are in the worst of worst conditions, they are given sugar, water and sodium. When we are in a place where we cant physically eat, our body can take care of its nutrient needs with the above process’s and stores while streamlining and increasing our healing capacity.

Digestion really takes up a lot of energy, on a standard american diet the average can take up to between 40 – 60 % of total blood flow, This is huge!! Even on a simple low fat raw vegan diet digestion can on average take up to between 20 – 30 % of your total blood flow. Some factors to look at are total Digestive time as well as the total Digestive chemistry needed for any given meal, the lower and shorter we can be in both these catigorys the less digestive energy used. Digestion is the most taxing process that many people undertake, eating a poorly combined meal with animal products included can create more work for the body than going for a long intense jog! Of course the amount of blood flow  and digestive chemistry is dependant upon a wide range of factors. Some being:

a) The total size of the meal, the bigger and more complex the meal is the more blood flow and time needed.

b) How the meal was combined, with poor food combining there is increased blood flow. With mono meals, fruit and simple well combined meals even if large  there is much much less time, enzymes requirements as well as chemistry needed for digestion.

c) How hydrated you are, the more optimally hydrated ( 8 – 12 times to the bathroom a day, nice and clear) the better quality of digestion with the least digestive effort.

d) Your emotional state while eating, if you are emotionally charged before, during or after your meal digestion may take a back seat in energy and blood flow increasing the time it will take, digestive chemistry thereby increasing fermentation blood flow needed and toxemia.

To free up the maximum amount of nerve energy as well as enzymes for bodily processed we want our digestion to be as simple as possible both in chemistry and time. Large well combined meals of well combined fruits and veggies while being low in fat afford us the best possible scenario freeing up a abundance of nerve energy and enzymes for all maner of functions. I go over food combining as well as sequential eating, providing tons of recipes like this in my “101 Frickin’ Rawsome Recipes”  available by donation here :)

Of course fasting free’s up all of the digestive organs to redirect energy to a multitude of other functions.

Another really interesting fact about day three, it is the last day in general that one is living off of or using up intestinal reserves. Between the bowel and the intestines it take on average 3 full days of fasting to go through, absorb and utilize the foodstuffs and bacterial products/wastes in these organs. So in actuality technically during these first 3 days the body isnt in full fast mode. It is after this time that deeper cleansing in the form of Catabolism, once again always going on just heightened in all stages of a fast and especially after day 3 on average, and with that Anabolism.

Both with fasting as well as with any habit change the first 3 days are the hardest! I used to smoke cigarettes, in fact I started in grade 4!! Habit changes can take time but it really brings much strength in knowing that the first 3 days are often the hardest and if you can get through that often you have made it through the gauntlet! The biggest obstacle to changing a habit is really if you really want to change the habit. You may feel you should, or have reasons why you want to, but until you really want to change on all levels it will be but a temporary shift. Sometimes it takes a few of these to grow in reasons, experience and need to change our habits. Most of our toxemia is stored in fat tissues, while a bunch will be stired up in the clearing of our intestines and colon, after day 3 we get into deep stored toxemia wich can be smooth for some as well as turbulent for others. Fasting also enhances all of our senses including out intuition, sight, hearing, smell and taste bringing us closer to our natural state. One thing for sure is Fasting provides us with a opportunity to delve within ourselves, our habits, beliefs and thoughts to reevaluate shifting our perspective and if we are ready changing our habits. A blessed transformative process and opportunity!

I have personally been guided to fasting intuitively for over 12 years! Having underwent a bunch of fasts of varying durations myself I have experienced the benefits and growth inherent in such a process. Over a year and a half ago I felt guided to take a fast feeling increased need for sleep as well as increased physical and mental stress accompanied by a comparative lack of motivation. This was during the time when I had just completed “101 Frickin’ Rawsome Recipes” , was going through some emotional times as well as being very busy with consults, growing my website as well as under sleeping. While I felt a fast could really help me at this time I didn’t feel that it was a option given my workload as well as time schedule. Within a few weeks of increasing my sleeping and eating simple mono meals (my compromise to fasting which really helped) I got thrown into nearly double the workload as well as traveling for over a year straight doing live in consultations and other consults full time. I love love love the flow of what I do but must admit in that time and place it was for sure a fast growth as well as a challenge at times, forged in fire!! Love it!

Growing in loving service, putting others needs often in-front of my own I felt a increased desire to fast. All that time I also started developing tasting and testing my “Cravings Busters Transitional Recipes” ( coming soon I promise!!). While I know without a doubt these recipes are much simpler in both digestive demands as well as lower in fat, irritants, and questionable ingredients compared to regular raw gourmet, for me coming from a really simple hygienic 80/10/10 flow I have found some cumulative effects. For most people who already follow a simple raw diet I would recommend the bulk of these recipes as a occasional dish, for celebrations and transition on average no more than once a week or month for the higher level “Cravings Busters” with some simpler “cravings busters” being simple enough to eat with more frequency. For those just moving into raw food more frequency on any dishes will be great as comparatively to their norm they will be very simple. The frequency is a personal process dependent upon where each individual is at in their own journey as well as their digestive and physical realities in the moment. For me during in that time with my recipe testing, potlucks, retreats, working chefing at the farm of life, consulting and creating all manner of celebrations I found myself at times eating these meals and even the heaviest of them all 1 – 6 days in any given week. I must admit this has produced some physical and emotional stress at times as a large part of me wishes to eat very simply mostly of mono meals to feel my higher connection and lightness instead of being blanketed by heavier physical feelings or incumbent emotion. All of this increased my desire and perceived need to fast. This new book has really been a labour of love, a conscious creation that has had me flowing through some trials so I can better help others on their raw health journeys. Many lessons learnt, much growth incurred in my physical emotional and spiritual realms.

To the perfection of the process in all!!

Water Fasting Day 2

Blessings All!!!

Day 2 day 2 day 2,

What to share with you on day two?

Wanna see?

Enjoy!

Surrounded by song birds, I fall into a loving blissful flow of gratitude for all that is. Lisa the great gifted me with a natural plant Loofa, thanks lisa. Awesome for dry brushing, something I will get much more into in the next post actually :)

During my first two days of fasting I also led a few Kendalini ooops I mean Kundalini classes, love thier flow. Just keeping it mellow and growing in the pulsing connection and expantion of the auric energy field. This like anything is  strengthened with awareness and conscious practices. I also have been reading uplifting conscious literature, a new book I started reading which I would highly recommend is “Radical Forgiveness” by Colin Tipping. If you or anyone you know holds in anger, despair or any negativity toward what is, toward relationships or has that “its not fair attitude” this book can help open the viel. SImply showing and helping guide anyone open to a new perspective into seeing the perfection in everything, looking past the egoic self and seeing that we are conscious and unconscious creators forming our flow perfect for what we wish to experience and grow through. This is one of those book that I read and was continually laughing and nodding as it had felt as if I had read it before. The concepts brought within, or rather remembered can bring unmeasured peace and bliss.

Loving bathing in the cool pools, drinking a bunch of that fresh water while in there!! Important to  bathe clearing the skin during a fast, it is the largest elimination organ we have! Skin brushing along with bathing helps the body clear itself of toxemia shedding old dead skin and creating a more open flow assisting in that letting go. Staying hydrated both during a fast as well as in regular life is essential to great health, it simply effects all of your bodily systems. Optimally one should be urinating clear 8 – 12 times a day, during fasting this may mean drinking 2 – 3 liters a day, and during a regular flow up to a liter upon rising and a cup or two 15 min before food if thirst. Of course the quantity you drink will be determined by a wide number of factors including the climate your in, if you exercising and sweating as well as the foods your eating, how juicy they are! Stay Hydrated!! :)

During my fast I am continuing to work a bit here and there, maybe not fully optimal but what I was led to in my heart. I know some would say this isn’t pure or hygienic fasting but I simply feel so joyful in my work that I see doing a little bit as a decent balance, at least for me during this fast. Work or activity that is strenuous, tiring, stressful physically or mentally should be avoided. In the end you cant go wrong following your own drum letting go of judgements fixed opinions and listing to your intuition.

Why am I fasting, a question asked a few times. If I am on such a clean simple diet why would anyone need to fast? I do believe we can even in this day and age we can reach a point where fasting is completely unnecessary especially on a simple low fat raw diet, but this all depends on the physical emotional and environmental stresses we put on ourselves. Being three fold beings we are best served looking at ourselves in this manner, healing of body mind and spirit is radically propelled forward during a fast. For me this fast is as much about connection to the divine, delving within and shedding old patterns beliefs and blockages that keep me from experiencing and choosing my highest self in all moments. We are really spiritual beings having a physical experience (thanks CWG) letting go of the digestive demands we open up a surplus of energy for emoting, cleansing and feeling our full physical and energetic bodies with much more clarity. In this process we are once again given a chance to see and feel our true self, to feel what hinders our expansion. With this knowledge we can either see it feel it shedding light and dissipating it or hide it once again. A amazing process of self discovery and growth fasting truly is a unfolding process.

On the physical side This last year and a half has been heavy for me. My first 5 years raw I stuck it 80/10/10 style pure hygienic, that means no spices (except some cinnamon and carob at times) onions garlic ginger while following proper food combining to a t and alway keeping fat low. In writing and expanding my recipes in my upcoming book, “Cravings Busters Transitional Recipes” coming soon BTW, I have opened the door to some of these ingredients (all optional in the book with substitutes) as I treuly do feel they can be really helpful to many in the process of transitioning to a simpler cleaner raw food diet. Nearly all of the gourmet recipe books I have seen out there are really high in fat, horrid with food combining, including many ingredients such as salt and oils that I do not include or recommend. Even though its simple low fat raw gourmete, overdoinging it as I have in both Chefing and creating the book has me excited to close that book in finihsin writing it and personally using the recipes with much less frequency instead for celebrations, or gatherings and feasts when asked :)

I also have a few lingering sk8 injuries that I wish to heal up more fully, in the past I have cracked my spine, dislodged a few bones, torn and stretched tendons and ligaments in my knees and ankles and really just battered myself without adequately recovering. I used to literally let myself just heal (while drinking smoking and eating poorly, near a decade ago) then purposefully skateboard at such a intensity that I would wreck my body and need take weeks off. I can say in a period of 6 years of intense sk8ing 2 – 3 of them were spent on my back healing or otherwise limping. Giving your body the nourishment, sleep and time it needs to heal up well cant be overstated. In fasting I simply strive to give my body mind and spirit the time energy and conscious attention it needs to reach higher heights. Laughing loving while delving within, growing and sharing this flow together :)

Fasting at The Farm of Life Day 1

Blessings Everyone!!

I am really excited to share my Fasting experience with you while at The Farm of Life, I love it!

Into Day 1 exposing my learnings thoughts and experiences with Fasting and Cleansing in general :)

Enjoy it much!

Where to start, fasting is such a awesome topic that is widely misunderstood. Many people think fasting is Starving, this is far from the truth. Fasting is a age old practice that in reality near every living being utilises at certain points of their life for a wide variety of reasons. Animals intuitively fast when sick, injured, or forced due to food shortage in all cases it is or can be life saving and regenerating. Some animals insects and reptiles fast or Hybernate every year for months some up to years. Plants and insects also go through dormant stages where thier entire system reboots cleaning out the old and making room for new expansion and growth. This topic could fill a whole chapter hmmm. :)

Humans have a colorful history in fasting as well documented throughout history for reasons physical mental and spiritual. Nearly every major religious or spiritual figure has been documented to fast for physical mental and spiritual growth, often for the 40 days and 40 nights as Jesus did in the desert. Purification and regeneration of the body is the most common reason people fast bringing self healing from Degenerative diseases, chronic ailments and destructive habits as some of the benefits. Nearly every disease know to man has been show to be halted, helped or reversed by fasting. The body really is the most amazing physical gift we have been bestowed, self healing, self cleansing, self regulating, we simply need provide the proper conditions and it does everything for us, truly a marvel. Often we can get so intellectual we think we know better than our body, that it “messed up” and we need fix or help it “heal” with pills, potions and such, Really if we just get out of the way get some rest and miss a few meals it does a much better job. I really really recommend reading Dr Doug Grahams Book “Hygienic Fasting” as well as Herbert Shelton’s Fasting Can Save Your Life” as well as his “The Hygienic System, Volume III, Fasting and Sun Bathing” this last one free to read online here.

Suffice it to say I have much faith and direct experience in the unparalleled perfection of the bodies healing power when given the tools it needs to regain maintain and indeed thrive. Over the past 12 years I have fasted at least 12 times, more if you count one day or 24 hour fasts which I wont ahha. All of my fasts up to this point have been done unsupervised, something I don’t recommend even as I did so myself. DO what I say not what I do!! ahahah Kidding :) Having guidance and support is really helpful to say the least, I know in my case I blew a few of my fasts in coming off early or in a poor manner, refeeding is most often the most difficult part of the fast.

All the same  I gained fasting experience over the years by reading learning through experience in moving from one day, to two, to a few fasts of three days, then a few five day fasts, followed y a few 7 and lastly two 10 day fasts. The longer fasts where done over 1.5 and 2 years apart. I am not a advocate of weekly monthly or even yearly fasts unless in the latter case they are clearly indicated by intuition and symptoms. Most often simply coming into a clean and simple raw vegan diet, from there possible a few fasts if indicated in thier own time fine tuned to each individuals needs and realties is all thats needed. Living in the world we do today with pollution, pesticides, herbicides all those harmful sides as well as stress, fasting may in fact be more needed now than ever. Talking with and having the help in person or even online or phone of someone experienced in fasting can save you much discomfort, time and energy.

During fasting the bodies energy is able to be redirected to cleansing and detoxification leading to repair and regeneration of all bodily functions. Always working in the best interest of your whole being the body will start where it wants to not where you wish it to. Giving the entire digestive system a break frees up tons of energy as the average person uses 30 – 60% of their total blood flow on digestion with a simple low fat raw foodist still hitting 15 – 40%. This surplus of energy not only can go towards healing and regaining homeostasis but also emoting and processing old emotions and stored feelings as well as facilitating spiritual and emotional growth and sensitivity. As three part beings this process can help bring clarity and renewed passion to our true purpose. Toxemia of the body and emotions can be held in fat tissue, with fasting both come up :)

Beyond the amazing benefits of fasting I chose to have this time of renewal at Finca de Vida (farm of life) as it truly a holistic healing center also providing the supervision I have never had. With the cleanest pure spring water to drink and bathe in (check the Cool Pools Video on “The Farm of Life” YouTube channel here), the renewing earthing energy of barefoot walking (do read “Earthing” more on this below), skin brushing, amazing vortex’s to sun gaze in as well as amazing positive energy of both the farm the guests and volunteers there as well as the most excelent owners Brian and Josephine Calvi. I shall talk more about each of these in do time :)

Its really amazing to me, going to a fasting center can cost thousands and thousands of dollars, I know of a few that literally cost over 4 grand a month while some much much more than that. There is something is to be said for experience in fasting as well as the quality of the treatment and even education there. For instance I wholly recommend and know Dr Doug Grahams fasting retreats are worth every penny as they are a full on education and emersion into hygienic living and fasting with arguable the most experienced and knowledgeable fasting practitioner available. That said The Farm of life offers the most affordable rates, under a quarter of what most people charge with amazing atmosphere, knowledgeable supervision education and lodging. I have been blessed to help facilitate many others on thier healing and fasting protocols at The Farm of life gaining both insights and experience. The most common protocol is a month stay with 1.5 – 2 weeks of applying a simple low fat raw vegan flow, often mono meals, followed by 5 – 10 day water fast, finishing with the remaining time re feeding. The re feeding is often the hardest part where supervision really helps in spades, Ive found this out the hard way!! Its been a joy to help others in their process, thanks to you all as well as Brian n Josephine :)

If you have fasting experience longer fasts can be arranged with Brian, for the most part fasts of 3 – 10 days are the norm. I am excited that the Farm of Life offers such a amazing service for such a realistic price, this is something everyone should be able to afford. I look forward to more centers and places that offer such services at such prices, in fact I will be part of starting some up, teasers!! :)

Barefoot walking deserves a post all by itself, in fact I most probably will do so in the future. Quite simply we are energetic beings, the planet, our mother herself is a part of our energy field, in wearing shoes with rubber soles we effectively dampen our connection to earth energy. We pamper and soften our feet missing the subtle flow of energy always exchanging between us and our surroundings. Earthing or barefoot walking reconnects us to that earth energy revitalizing and energizing our energetic bodies. It also is the best way to get free reflexology, a amazingly beneficial modality. Reflexology is basically the stimulation and clearing of certain points on the feet and hands that correspond with other systems, organs and glands within the body. When these points get stagnated, or rather the organs systems and glands get stagnated they show up on the corresponding points. Barefoot walking, like massage and reflexology, helps break up these deposits moving energy and blood flow to the areas that need it. I can attest to the effectiveness as I have much experience in reflexology in both practice on others and self application. I have found the points and indicators are so accurate as well as helpful its really a blessing to get it free by simply reconnecting with barefoot walking. For much more solid scientific and enlightening information I highly recommend you read the book “Earthing” by Clint Ober, Stephen Sinatra M.D and veteran health writer Martin Zucker, check it out here.

Fasting being very personal and at times emotional I feel really blessed and happy to share these times and experiences with you. Most often you simply see me running around boisterous and giddy laughing and joking, while thats all fun and sweet I am happy to share more sides of me hopefully helping you with your own process and complexity. Having much to share I took before pictures of myself and eyes to show the changes. I entered this fast with no set amount of days to go for, simply wishing to move in the moment with my intuition and bodily indicators. Allowing up to 3 weeks or so leaving the time fraim to my bodies individual needs in the moment. More on this later :)

Enjoy some pre fast pics!!!!

Whoa that looks funny :)

hey!

yep!

This is just day One!!!

I wanted to also share a early cleansing experience with you!

8 years ago before I went raw I had severe systemic Candida, this was diagnosed by my Naturopath at the time as well as by the symptoms I was experiencing. Not knowing what I do now I followed a anti Candida Diet consisting of no fruit (except granny smith apples) and no fat all raw veggies. Day after day or coleslaw (I don’t know why I didn’t just make big green salads with cucumbers and tomatoes?) sunchokes and granny smith apples nearly drove me to insanity. Special irritating Anti Candida Herbs, lack of calories, dissatisfaction on the program was too much to bear. The plan was to stick to this for 2 weeks then follow a modified program. By day 10 my intestines and bowels hurt, I was grumpy depressed and tired from lack of calories with high digestive demands.

Have you ever try to get all your calories from veggies? I dont reccomend this at all, its impossible as veggies are the lowest calorie foods per bite with the highest fiber not to mention higher protein levels than are healthful. As a species we either need to get the bulk of our calories from carbs, ideally simple carbohydrates, or otherwise fat within which holds many predicable problems. Fat is the real culprit in Candida I have since learnt, every cell in our body runs of of simple carbs or sugars, it doesnt make sence to limit them. The real protocaul is to limit or eliminate fat for a time to increase our bodies ability to utilise and absorb fruit sugars as fat decreases insulin function not to mention celular oxygenation! Double wammy! For much more on this Check “The 80/10/10 diet” By Dr Douglas Graham Available here on my shop page.

Back to the story, by day 10 as mentioned I had had enough, I was starved gassy and felt terrible. In a near mindless psychosis I ate 10 “power cookies” (those ones with 8 types of nuts, seeds, grains and “natural” sugars, better named power sapping cookies hah) from my workplace at the time, Capers a organic grocer in Vancouver. After the cookies I ate a pint of vegan soy ice cream, I believe a bag of “natural” chips, some vegan pizza, a subway sub and possibly something else, it gets hazy from there. I managed to get back home after consuming a few days worth of food in those 2 – 3 hours and fell into a deep coma like sleep.

When I awoke I couldn’t open my eyes! I had a thick yellow coat of dried ooze covering my eyelids, after peeling this away I opened my blurry eyes and saw in the mirror tha I had no whites, only bright red eyes. Freaked out I went to my naturopath. He said that I had overdone it so much that I overwhelmed my regular avenues of detox so my body eliminated through my eyes! Lucky that I didn’t go blind or severely damage my eyes I took this as a powerful lesson. It took a week for my eyes to come back to semi normal and from it I got a dark blotch in the inner corner of each eye something I hope clears with this fast.

Hope you enjoy those photos above.

With this experience and my subsequent learnings, “cleanses” that promote irritating herbs and a “war on (this or that)” type vibe I can only say are misinformed of the natural balance and homeostasis attainable only through balanced living. When we support our body with the proper nutrients and lifestyle factors instead of taking the “Anti” this or that approach, intellectually attacking the perceived “enemy, we find our body is much more capable and miraculous than we could ever imagine. Truely the best and quickest way to heal from candida is through fasting as well as a simple low, to no fat raw vegan lifestyle catered to the individual based on his/her particulars and history. This I can attest to after this epic fail then clearing up my candida with easy and joy fully within the first month of going raw on Dougs 80/10/10 protocaul.

Wow this is the longest post ive ever done, if you are down here I hope you relaly enjoyed it and have gained much insight and knowledge thorugh my expereinces. Much much more to come!!!

thousand blessings and much

Farm of Life Fun!!

Blessings All!!!

Coming at you with video blog 57, tid bits and hodge podge style fun from the first few months at The Farm of Life!

Hope you enjoy it tons!!!

Starting off with the second time I ever ate a Noni Fruit. The first time I really really didnt like it, this time I actually enjoyed it a bit. The noni is considered a medicinal fruit with some pain killing properties. Its interesting that in most of the places it grows, virtually everywhere in the tropics by the beach up to the mountains, its not well liked or eaten by many. It seems those who like it Love it, and those who dont, well they hate it and complain about the smell. Called the Starvation Fruit, Cheese Fruit as well as the Vomit fruit. It really tastes like blue cheese, coconut with hints of garlic and hot peppers. Much much more about this crazy fruit in a future post! :)

So many fun and awesome friends I have made here, Craig, Zander, Kitis, Nicole, Anna, Fayvor, Queenie, Jose, Dr Sammy, Wilco, Kayla, Bob, Lauren,  Steve, Tim, Trevor, Bonnie, Rene, Sophiz, Wendy, Jackie, Pam, Jack, Dalia and so so many more, so much love!!

Dr Sammy is another amazing low fat raw vegan, hitting 811 for over a decade, keeping it very simple and hygienic, he is a true testament to the lifestyle. The best Physical Therapist Ive ever met, Dr sam has created his own form of Rawhabilitation including all aspects of healthy living. He has his own web site with the focus on raw food, properly aligned exercise as well as all the other faucets of healthful living. Check him out for sure, I will be talking a bunch more with him in a upcoming raw advantage interview :)

Wilco, another amazing raw vegan chef and long term low fat raw fooder (over a decade as well) just retired from the head chef position at finca di vida. We got a chance to talk a bit on camera about his upcoming plans to work as a raw chef at retreats in Spain as well as his new upcoming book all about his raw journey offering insights and tips to speed up anyones quest for optimal health. You can learn more about him and check out his upcoming book as well as recipes on his site!

One of the other amazing fruits in Costa rica is the Biriba. A member of the Annona family, as is Cherimoya one of my faves, the biriba is also known as Rollinia Deliciosa. The flesh is white to translucent, juicy, with an excellent sweet flavor reminiscent of Lemon meringue pie with a pudding like texture. Native to the Brazilian-Peruvian Amazon, but its range now spreads throughout the Caribbean, Central and South America. It is rarely if ever grown commercially, but is often found cultivated on a small scale in the American tropics.

Oh my my we have a banana eating contest at the farm of life!!!! The 2nd official contest, Brian called me out after wining the 1st one, Check that video out here, its pretty awesome!! This contest was serious with the real deal Dr Sammy, undefeated Brian Calvi and myself The Banana Commander!! It was dubbed “Banana Eating Contest with 80/10/10 Heavyweights”

This video shows some tidbits, but to watch the whole video in all its glory check it out here on the Farm of Life’s youtube Channel. Subscribe to them for other awesome videos and information!

Dr sam is a 80/10/10 purist, to keep him in with us in our feast I made two versions of my Low fat raw East indian feast one hygenic one with a few other items. I will admit I prefer the simple Hygienic flow myself although in testing and creating recipes for my “Cravings Busters Transitional Recipes” I have delved into some Transitional fare! He loved loved the recipes, in fact all my upcoming recipes will show how to make them both simple and hygenic as well as slightly more transitional or gourmete. Options are good!!! Sammy mentioned his Reatreats in March/april which I will be Chefing at here at the Farm of Life!! SO excited!!

Secret Secret, I have a Secret!!! I will be holding a Raw food, Skateboarding, Surfing Yoga Retreat here at Finca de Vida /Farm of Life in January of 2012!!! It is going to be really really fun, much more on this in the future!!!

Last but not least we have one of my newest and greatest addititons to my Transitional Recipe book!!! Raw Ukranian featuring Perogies (both dehydrated and fresh) cabbage rolls (both Fermented and fresh) as well as Borsht and Faux “Sautéed” Garlic and Onions in “Butter”!!! Its one of my new favorites for sure, so so so excited to share it with you!! All coming soon!!!!!!

Hi Chris…

How you doing?

I Just finished a fantastic Kundalini yoga class with Chris (blessings) so I’m in a perfect state for an interview.

It was fun, I loved it, I loved it… Ellen’s a yoga teacher as her website presents and we are both also going to be at the Woodstock Fruit Festival right? Both teaching yoga there and going to hopeful be attending all of the lectures and the fun stuff there. (Yes) I’m pretty excited about that.

I want to get into as well as your being a yoga teacher, you are also a raw food coach and a low fat raw food vegan as well as I am correct? (Yes)

So I am just wondering what kind of led you into that lifestyle and maybe what kind of stuff you encountered in applying that lifestyle.

It’s been a long journey for me, I had some health fall apart in my early twenties and I started studying and learning how to heal myself naturally. It was about 20 years later that I discovered a raw food approach and I have now been on a low fat raw vegan diet exclusively now for just about 10 years, a little over nine years and the benefits just keep coming so there is no turning back at this point (yes, yes)

That’s clear to me… And about four years ago now I started offering what I had learned to other people. I’m feeling very passionate as most raw fooders do about shouting the benefits from a mountain top but I got a little more graceful about it over the years and stopped scaring people away.

You wanted to be evangelical about it to in the beginning… (Laughter) Just like me!

I like to think I’m getting to a place where I can be a bit more effective now without frightening them away. (Yes)

So I have been teaching a variety of classes, workshops, respite, transformational or transitional classes… I have a 30 day class which is sort of my signature class where I serve people a low fat raw vegan dinner and then we have a coaching session. (Beautiful) I do have some previous training in counseling so that has been really handy and art therapy as well which I planning on using at the retreat. So, I have in the past facilitated a lot of coaching and therapy techniques… so I bring that approach in with the raw food coaching because I recognized early on with myself and with all other people that go on this approach, it’s a lifestyle not a diet we all know that (huge, huge, oh for sure!) There is so much emotion involved.

Yes, so much of the healing is emotional, I’ve found myself in that role too sometimes and I can imagine it is such a blessing to have that formal training, help and recognition from those aspects.

And just the training from having gone through it yourself you know? From having been through this a number of years and knowing what happens after a month, after months a year, after a year, five years and the changes that just keep coming (forever) That’s really my biggest training is having lived this (Yes) and being able to expect what is going to come up for people and be able to ask the right questions of them. So, the group coaching is really powerful because people are bringing up all kinds of stuff about what is blocking them (yes) from not only eating the way they now believe they should in order to get the benefits they want but also stepping into living life fully. (Yes) A place where you just lean into your fears and bust barriers and start living your life like this! Out in this gorgeous place. Being here is just renewing my commitment to getting closer to this kind of a lifestyle. (Sure) So, I do the best I can in Michigan where we have cold winters and I’ve learned to get through.

It can be done! I’ve lived in the middle of the winter… Do you find, something I’ve found is that the first few years of a raw vegan diet, the food is so much the focus that the difference in quality or climate can really impact you a large amount? I’ve found personally that throughout the years I’ve found that it takes a bit of a back seat.. Of course it’s a huge part of my focus but it has mellowed out a little bit. I can be in the cold for months out of the year and be totally fine, it doesn’t affect me.

The commitment becomes so second nature, so internal that you find a way to maintain the commitment wherever you are (Yes) Some places are easier than others (Yes, for sure) but you find a way and it isn’t such a big deal. I do travel South for winter every year and it lasts longer and longer but you know that the focus on food is powerful in the beginning as it needs to be for the learning curve but eventually the focus comes on living fully… Having all of the aspects of your life come into integration and feeling total integrity.

Interview with Ellen Livingston of Living Yoga Now:

Holism in every aspect, which is perfect out here in a place like this where you have a connection to the earth, the meditation and the yoga that we can bring and clean air and clean water, all things equally important.

Deeply inspirations to be in a place like this. Can I talk about where I’m going now with with…? (For sure!) After teaching for four years, first what I discovered, not surprisingly was that the most effective way I have found to help people move forward lasting by leaps and bounds in the lifestyle that they really want to live and the person they really want to be is to spend concentrated time with them. So I know Chris, you do really awesome live-in retreats where you can come and live right in your own environment where you can help transform that environment and your integration into that environment so it works for you there. I have been working more and more for retreats where people come to me either individually or in a group to an environment which is set up as pristinely as possible to facilitate your transformations, your connection to the earth, to the energy, the air, and then with yoga… such as you and I have a common thread. The power of the yoga on a raw path is to help you come into yourself and find your essence and connect with it so that you can use that strength and connected source with which to make those choices and changes that you so want to make for your food and your lifestyle. You need something that holds you there and keeps you connected. So at my retreats there is yoga, group coaching, private coaching, there is a sense of total emersion, not so much in a sense of just the didactic teachings but of the experiential teachings. What do we eat, how do we make it, where do we get it? What kind of exercise do we do? How often, where, when?

Just seeing the whole lifestyle hey? Experiencing it; seeing it; feeling it too.

And doing it in a place that would be as close to what our natural environment would be so that even if we can’t live in this place we can learn from it, grow from it, take it in. I have to leave tomorrow and I am taking this entire day just literally drinking in the incredible amount of oxygen, the layers of emollient, I feel like I’m an avatar. It feels like there is five dimensions out there, it is just incredible so I would like to bring people on retreats here next winter and will be doing retreats in the summer at a beautiful spot in Michigan.

I hope someday to accompany you in those, if I can ever facilitate anything I am more than happy to.

Awesome

It would be fun, look to the future and anything is possible right?

Yes and that’s sort of the crux of my teaching with people, is that honestly, anything is possible and you are the creator of your own reality. The work is just to strengthen our connection to that knowledge, we have the power to create whatever we want and that raw food is just one of many tools as is yoga, to help us be as pure and healthy and integrated as possible so that going forth we can give our biggest gifts to the world and be happy and comfortable doing so.

Interview with Ellen Livingston of Living Yoga Now:

Yes, that’s awesome, that’s a blessing right? Life becomes a joy when you’re in that integration.

Work becomes play, it all becomes living wealth.

Yes, you’re doing what you want to do the whole time and all the while facilitation other people as best you can.

Because it’s about sharing, I need playmates on this path. (Yes, Yes) So come on retreats and play with Chris and I and learn to play fully…

More to come, more to come for sure! That’s one last thing want to ask too, I started yoga before I got into raw foods but when I got into raw food I felt that yoga just brings it much deeper and fuller. I just felt passion bubble forth for me in all of the aspects of life that I really wanted to create sense of self in. Did you start yoga and raw foods around the same time or was one before/after one?

Great question because I started yoga back in my twenties (Oh wow) and didn’t discover raw food until my late thirties. So I chose my name for what I do “Living Yoga” because I was yoga focused but when I integrated into raw food I kind of wanted to take some time teaching raw food classes for people who wanted to learn about that and yoga classes to people who wanted to learn about that and people kept telling me “you shouldn’t call yourself living yoga, you should call yourself living raw or something like that” I said no, it’s really about the yoga and I just haven’t figured out yet how to integrate the teaching, but I have now and the retreats are a great way to do that because we thoroughly integrate the raw food with actual meals and the living of that lifestyle with the yoga and it helps to pull it all together so that’s partly why I am so passionate now; To get the whole thing together.

So you would like to come out to places like this, Finca de Vida, and create your own space to facilitate that yourself in your own living space?

I have a opportunity at home in Michigan now, on a ten acre property that has the possibility of a private retreat space so I would be able to do both. With people that want to immerse themselves in their own private journey with guidance on a daily bases from me and a perfect setting on your own time period of whenever it works for you in the year. I’m going to be able to provide that to people as well as the group retreats in a setting like this where Jody and Brian have just poured their hearts into the entire infrastructure you need, all of the facility, it’s just absolutely comfortable. Rugged yet doable and just deeply deeply awe inspiring and I haven’t been to another place on the planet that compares.

No, me neither. I’m back and I’m going to be back a lot more!

I’m going to be back here a lot more so I hope you’ll all be out her too.

Who knows, I might even be out here during your retreats you know? I’m the chef out here now so I’m loving it!

I just might move in!

Well with being here, out doing live in retreats and visiting family I can’t imagine a better world. Consciously creating every step we take. Every breath.

That’s what it really is to me and to sum it all up and hoping to convey to people. It’s about conscious living and being every moment.

Every moment and every thought; everything actualizing.

Interview with Ellen Livingston of Living Yoga Now:

That sounds daunting but with the yoga and the guidance behind you it does become second nature to you and becomes easier and easier to feel that.

Yes, it’s a beautiful beautiful thing. Thank you so much Ellen. It’s been great talking to you and I just want to check if there is anything else you want to chat about, anything else you want to put forward and if not then a simple end is great.

I guess I want to leave you with the words that we are all designed to play. (Beautiful)

Thank you so much and see you guys again on another interview! This is Ellen Livingston, loving it, http://livingyoganow.com , check it out.

I’ll say one more thing, I just put my thoughts together in a book (Oh beautiful!) so you can find that on my website and it’s called “The Ultimate Raw Food Diet Detox and Wellness Program” It’s only about a hundred pages and I tried to put all of the details of coming down this path (perfect).

Is that in eBook format and…

It’s in eBook and paperback format. (Cool)

Ok, check that out for sure and hopefully you will see us together again and at Woodstock and who knows beyond that.

Thanks so much!

The Miracle Berry Exposed!

Blessings All :)

I got a nice quick one for ya all here on a neat little berry know as the Miracle berry!

This little bugger once eaten makes all sour fruit taste sweet!

Enjoy the fun, facts and tidbits in the video below :)

Well well well the Miracle berry huh!

Also known as the flavor berry, magical berry and miracle fruit this tropical exotic fruit is native to west Africa, it has also been successfully cultivated in Florida, Hawaii, South America, and Australia. Discovered first (beyond by the locals of course ahahah) by French explored Chevalier des Marchais who traveled extensively in this area between 1704 and 1727 under service to the King of France. It was during an excursion in 1725 in West Africa, des Marchais discovered the natives chewing the berry prior to consuming sour palm wine (beer) and fermented maize bread.

It was actually not properly identified or named until the mid 19th century by Dr. W. F. Daniell who discovered it while being stationed in an outpost in West Africa. Dr. Daniell called it the “miraculous berry” with the Latin name Synsepalum dulcificum, publishing this in 1852 in the Pharmaceutical Journal, Vol. Xl.  The Miracle Berry is a member of the Sapotaceae family, relative of the sapodilla (Manilkara zapota) which tatsts of liquid brown sugar! One of my favorite and a true sweet fruit!

Once eaten, this small red berry makes sour foods like lemons, grapefruits, and limes taste sweet. Many who have tried the miracle fruit say a lemon tastes like a piece of lemon drop candy, i can attest to this. I also tried some peppers, tomatoes, mango and a few spicy greens such as arugila and mustard greens. I found the berry had little to no effect on anything other than citrus fruits.

This evergreen plant, which produces small red berries the size of a coffee bean, also produces delicate white flowers that can be seen year round. The bushes can grow to 20 feet in their natural habitat but seldom go beyond 10 feet in cultivation. The miracle fruit is highly perishable and must be eaten within 2-3 days once picked.

This exotic tropical berry contains an active glycoprotein molecule, with some trailing carbohydrate chains, called miraculin. When the fleshy part of the fruit is chewed, this molecule binds to the tongue’s taste buds, causing sour foods to taste sweet. Welcome to Lime Island Paradise! If you were stuck on Lime Island you better hope that there are plenty of miracle berries too! Lemons and limes are actually so high in citric acid that when eaten alone they are irritants. Miracle berry or not eating too many of these foods will cause irritation of the throat and digestive tract, after 4 I felt this.

While the exact cause for this change from sour to sweet is unknown, one theory is that the effect may be caused by miraculin distorting the shape or covering the sweetness receptors so that they become responsive to acids, instead of sugar and other sweet things. This effect can last from 15 minutes to 2 hours for some. Its important to chew the berry well and swish it around for upto a minute to get the full effects.

In eating a hot pepper I found no difference, they still burned ahah. Hot peppers contain the substance capsaicin, another irritant that causes the burning sensation resulting from its chemical interaction with sensory neurons. Broadly Anti-microbia and Anti-Fungal basiclly not optimal foods for humans! These characteristics were probably developed to act as a deterernt to mammals, silly us! Because of the subsquentient endorphin rush one can easily become “addicted” to the physiological sensations as well as physical sensations, i know it as i have been swayed in at times.

Addiction, another fun topic for another day! :)

Love it!

Hope you enjoyed this video and write up on the miracle berry, I sure did!!!

wishing you much

Miss Eco Glam is a amazing lass from the UK who came to The Farm of Life here in Costa Rica to write a few articles for some major Magazines as well as her Awesome web site . While at the Farm of Life Anna got to experience the simple low fat raw vegan diet in action as well as learning all about its application as the science behind it. With Wilco,  Dr Sam and I all being long term low fat raw foodists as well as teachers of the simplicity of the raw lifestyle she couldn’t help but grow in knowledge and awareness. It was during this time we did our interveiew thanks so Much Anna!!! Much love!!

Traveling to and promoting  Eco friendly Hotels/Resorts and writing about them are two of her many passions. It is really amazing the impact that typical resorts/travel/cleaning products/hygiene products can have on the environment, Miss Eco Glam provides the info and resources to make this whole process much clearer at times with discounts! With a fun peppy and uplifting style Anna’s passion really shines though in spreading Eco and healthy vibes all across the nation. I highly reccomend checking her out!

Thousand Blessings and thanks to you Anna and all you do!!

This interview really delves deep into some misconceptions and little know facts about the raw food diet from many angles.

I really hope you love them, id recommend both parts for sure while part 2 gets more into the nitty gritty :)

Part 1

Part 2
Miss Eco Glam is uplifting and joyous Being hailing from the UK although she wasnt always that way. From a early age Anna felt overrun with toxicity stemming for a large part she figures from covering her whole body in toxic lead paint at age 7. Through her childhood and teenage years Anna dealt with depression as well as chronic fatigue fueled and compounded by poor food choices as well as recreational and Pharmaceuticals drugs. This all spawned a keen interest in improving not only her bodily environment but the environment all around her.  Filled with need she healed herself of her conditions opting to take a natural holistic approach, having healed from within she now loves to grow and spread the info that helped her so much with her struggles and journey back to optimal health.

Anna is currently writing two books, a guide to a healthy life (talking about toxins in house, products, water etc) as well as a Chronic Fatigue Guide Book. Check her out n sign up to stay informed about that as well as info on eco resorts and eco raw friendly travel destinations, I will be too :)

Couchsurfing in San Jose with DanDan!

Happy day all!!

Well well well, time for a really fun n exciting videoblog!

San Jose Couchsurfing with DanDan, plus bonus How to Make your Own Compost pit :)

Hope you really enjoy it!!!

Upon arriving at my gate with only a half a hour before deoarture the Gate attendant calls out, “No one without a Round Trip Ticket will be Admitted into Costa Rica”.

Holy Mango!! I only had a one way as I wasnt sure how long I would be in Costa Rica and really prefer to live by the Seat of my pants :)

That said I wanted to go so I up and bought a ticket, thanks to the kindness of the head Honcho there and bought a trip back one month later in cash for just over 200$. Well worth it, got in and on the run to downtown San Jose!!

After missing the farmers market by 10 minutes I went to Pali, the only store close by and bought some banana’s and plantains to tide me over until I met my Freind Danielle Day. DanDan as she oft calls herself is another 80/10/10 raw foodist, in fact she works for/with Dr Douglas Graham on his Newsletter and had just finished being the photographer for his Walking tour as well as month long fasting retreat out here in Costa Rica. We met up found a sweet hostel and were treated to a sweet complementary fruit breakfast!! SO Sweet!

The next day our Friend Lucas Buchanan picked us up and we went on a wild foray into the unknown of San Jose.

From there DanDan and I went to Fredo and Victor Ruilova’s and Katie’s house, oh i cant forget Rulfo. I had reached out to them on Couchsurfing.org looking for skateboarders in San Jose, what a great service, I cant think of any better way to travel than Couchsurfing.org other than for me doing my Full Time  Raw Live In Consults Love love love doing them! Fredo also skates so he showed me some really sweet spots and we both had a amazing time skating together. During the week while he worked Victor and Katie Also showed us some fun things to do and where the markets were! Eating raw in Costa Rica, or the markets in San JOse are really good and great deals. We picked up tons and tons of Mangos, the best Ive had in a really long time, Amazing Star Apples that taste like cookies and cream, as well as many others.

I enjoyed my First Cashewfruit! The “raw cashew” has some contriversey around it, many people include most growers Ive talked to say you cant get “Raw Cashews”. At the Very Least most if not all of the “Raw Cashews” you find in the stores have a good possiblity of being treated in some way. The reason for this is that the nut is encased in a hard shell filled with a caustic acid that burns the flesh. If you break it and damage the nut the Cashew is ruined, if you get it on your skin you will pay for it! The acid is really a thick oil that is really really hard to wash off, best not try to open them. I personally have only had one brand of cashews that I felt good after eating, they really are notorious for being the heaviest and hardest nut on digestion. When in doubt see if it will Sprout! ONce again, When in Doubt see if it Will Sprout!!! If you cant sprout a nut its not raw. I personally have never seen a store bought “raw cashew” sprout, they always turn to mush hmmm.

I envoke a challenge, anyone who can test a whole bunch Raw Cashews from different companies and document it (in good enough quality that I can use it in a video, 1 – 2 min please) seeing if any sprout I will give a free copy of my “101 Frickin’ Rawesome Recipes” ebook as well as my new upcoming “Cravings Busters Transtitional Recipes” If possible including a Nut fresh from a cashew fruit to would be optimal.

Back to the fun! DanDan and I enjoyed many times, yoga, wall climbing dancing playing and much super awesome food. Being a amazing Photographer DanDan got some great Shots, many of which are in the video blog!! :) Was so fun Danielle, look forward to more times!! :)

One of my favorite dinners ever and the best receipe!

Mangos and Tomatos! Fill a bowl with them, whole or chopped and devour!!!!

Is it a simple raw recipe or not? Is it?

My camera broke while wall Climbing, due to this I had to switch to filming off my computer! Still lots of fun but we didnt get as much out and about filming. One key thing we did do at Fredo’s house was make a Compost. It is really easy to make your own Compost within the video I provide a simple “How to make your own Compost pit” in the “Home Compost Made Easy” style hahah. I will also include the steps here to making your own compost pit, I hope they help, definatly well worth watching the video! If you dont have a compost pit, Make one!! Best use of your scraps and peelings, turn it and create the healthies cheepest food straight from your garden. If you dont have a garden, Start one up!!!! Your house, A friends House, a neighbor, couzin, by the riverbank yea!! Serious, more gardens and compost pits the better. Lets all reconnect to the soil, help it grow and in turn love its embrace :)

How To Make A Compost Pit!

1) Select a piece of ground that gets both sunlight and partial shade during the day. Mark a area 2 x 4 or 3 – 6 feet. Any larger and its really hard to mix, you never want to step into your compost pit.

2) Dig out the marked area to a depth of 1 1/2  to 2 feet. Pile some of the removed soil near an edge of the pit to add back into the pit later. Remove and discard big stones, roots and debris from both the pit and the stacked soil. Create a base layer of Small Rubble, Dry Straw and or Corn Stalks, lightly water this first layer.

3) Deposit garden clippings, dried leaves, chopped twigs, brown organic material and small amounts of shredded brown cardboard, Lightly water.

4) Your ready to add in your fresh fruit and veggie scraps and peels, only use organic, otherwise it could disrupt the Bacteria. The smaller the chunks, without getting neurotic, of foodstuff the faster it will turn. Cover losely with Grass Trimmings and a bit of dirt, srpinkle with water.

5) Turn the contents of the pit with a pitchfork every two weeks. Heap the material to the center of the pit each time. Add a shovel full of the set-aside soil into to the compost each time you turn it. Poke holes in the stack with a long sharp stick, providing places for air to reach the inner layers.

6) Maintain a state of dampness by sprinkling water on the pit contents if they become dry in the summer months. Cover the pit with black plastic during rainy spells to keep from getting soggy. Hold down the edges of the black plastic with heavy bricks or stones.

7) The compost is ready when it is thoroughly decomposed and crumbly.

!!!! Now you have amazing Compost that is ready to use!!!!!

Mix into soil for nutrient rich organic gardening or place around established plants for a more nutrient rich delicious expereince!!

Make a Compost, Grow A Garden, Connect to the earth in a new way!!!

These are amazing things to do with our youth, teaching them how to connect to thier food has never been more valuable than now!!!

Love and blessings

Quick Raw Vegan Live In Consult

Happy day All!!

Oh my was it hard to choose the Title, was either Quick Raw Live in Consult, or Fear and Loathing in Florida, hmmmmmm.

Did I make the right choice? Fear and loathing in Florida is really sweet too! hmm ahah

Anyhow with both those title choices I think you got the gist of what to expect!!!

I do hope you enjoy it!!

Check out these pages if you would wish to know more about my Consultations or my Full time Live in Consultations!

Well well well,

After sending off my family back to saskatoon, well not really, I got picked up by Chris Donmoyer a fellow skater looking for some guidance and inspiration on a healthier fitter raw vegan lifestyle. We dubbed our time Fear and Loathing in Orlando/ Florida, hmmm that title again! Right fromthe getgo we were flowing smooth, we had met months previous at a skateboard expo tradeshow and knew it would be a sweet time!

1st stop, the SPoT, or the Skate park of Tampa. The SPoT is the oldest and most successful indoor skatepark to my knowledge, over 17 years old, world renown as the seat of one of the biggest am and pro contests in the world, truly a skate park owned and operated by skateboarders! Love it, blessings Brian Schaefer you have a great SPoT!!! The last time I was at the Skate Part of Tampa was in 2000 I do believe, I was a skater in the amateur contest, surely one of the biggest am contests in the world. I actually did not too bad ending up around 50th place out of 130 top amateur skateboarders. I was up against well know pros Ryan Sheckler, then a wee boy, Elisa Steamer, Aaron Suski, Ryan Smith, Galia Momolu among many other amazing skaters that year.

We had a amazing time, skating all sections of the park as well as getting just a tid bit of skateboard footage for you to watch! Hope you enjoy!

In the parking lot Chris opened up his magical box of banana’s oranges and Pineapple Oranges!! Thats right, Pineapple Oranges!!! Soooo good and actually taste just just like the name suggests. Florida produce is soo soo soo good! Thanks Chris For the Bounty.

A quick pit stop at the local health store for some organic fruits and veggies and we were set for the weekend!!!

1st big meal, Simple raw Chili (one of my faves) with Guacamole in Romaine leaf wraps with Alfalfa sprouts. Soo ridiculously good I cant stand it!!! For sure for sure will be in my new “Cravings Busters Transitional Raw Recipes” coming out soon! We both enjoyed much and got a good nights sleep.

The next morning I finished a blog post entitles “DC  Commercials behind the Scenes” a amazing look into the making of a big time skate companies commercials, check it for some great skate footage and bloopers, one of my best!!! In the day we enjoyed a afternoon on one of Florida’s amazing beaches, caught some sun while enjoying some Yoga and some instruction on a few ways to integrate more Calisthenics into Chris’s flow. Banana’s and a bike ride followed with much sweetness!

For our last dinner I made a sweet fruit soup, I love fruit soup and Chris Did too, followed by one of my all time favorites Cashew Pad Thai!!! Way way way too good, we really enjoyed the meal and time!

A short nap brough 5 am too quick leading to my departure to Costa Rica. Being 4 hours away from Orlando where my Flight left it was a bit of a journey there. Thanks so much Chris for everything, was a really sweet time look forward to more!

Since our time Chris ha been flowing more n more raw all the while feeling better and better!!

To more adventures!!

much

Raw Vegan on a Cruise?

Eating as a Raw Vegan on a Cruise?

Happy day all!!!!

Can it be done?

Eating raw on a cruise?

Wonder how to survive traveling as a raw vegan?

hmmmm

Well I enjoy the heck out of it, Hope you enjoy this video!!!

oh oh my also bonus Bioelectric Impedance test, that is body composition test to figure out if I am healthy hmmmmmmm ahhah

So Raw on a cruise eh, well raw on a Disney Cruise to be more exact!!!

I love traveling as a raw vegan!

Planned for over a year n a half my family (13 of us!) went on a trip to Disney world in florida, Check “Raw Vegan in Disney World” and then a 5 night cruise on Disney’s Dream cruise ship. Disney’s Dream is their newest cruise ship, its maiden voyage in January of 2011. We got on only weeks after its first trips!! Filled with anticipation, especially for the youngans, we boarded this miraculous vessel.

My first eating experience was amazing, with buffet style salad bars and bowls of fruit I enjoyed as much fruit bowls as I wanted then filled up on salad. Perfect!!! Our first night at the restaurant (breakfast and lunch can be eaten anywhere with a few buffets available, dinner was manditory at a restaurant with a menu) I simply ordered from the menu, that is my usually style picking the 2 – 5 ingredients I saw in some dishes and asking for a large plate of those, plane. The head of the dinner service wished to come talk to me, after discussing my dietary needs she decided that they would appoint one chef as my chef for every dinner meal, Chef Matthew would in effect be my personal raw chef!!! Whoooo whooooo. hahah It turned out his sister was a raw foodist so he knew a few tricks and was stoked for the challenge!

After Chef Matthew came and talked with me regarding the items I enjoy the most and what I typically eat he took it on himself to create a different 3 course meal for me entirely raw and simple each night. Enjoy the video to see his creations, lest it be know they were really really amazing, a few higher fat than I would usually eat but all the same a huge huge blessing, one I am most greatful for. Thanks soo soo much Chef Matthew you made traveling as a raw vegan, being a raw vegan on a cruise a blissful experience. I felt truly spoiled and challenged to finish each meal he really made me huge huge portions of each dish!!

I love traveling as a raw vegan!

With Live action plays every night, geared to both kids and adults, 2 full size theaters playing brand new movies, 2 pools, 2 giant watersides, many buffets including a fresh fruit  bar, spa’s hot tubs, a epic gym, it would have been hard not to enjoy and be in bliss. We landed for one day in Nassau, a awesome island in the Caribbean. While there I skateboarded around and found the local farmers market. There I found some amazing sugar banana’s, so small and sweet n local, as well as some Sapodilla, a really sweet round fruit that literally tastes like brown sugar and a pear mixed, rawdiculous!!! Since one cant bring island fruit onto the cruise???? I had to eat all I bought before returning aboard, not a problem for the Banana Commander!!!! Delicious sweet meal enjoyed much!

Another night on the cruise ship and we landed at Disney island, a entire island owned completely by Disney for the purpose of cruises. Beautiful beaches, snorkeling ( to enjoy some underwater filming while snorkeling in Maui check out Maui Wowie part 2!) as well as a huge sliced fruit cart, well I was in bliss. Oh did I mention yoga on the beach, hot dang!!!

I love traveling as a raw vegan!!!!

One last night after a most epic meal by Chef Matthew he gave us a certificate memorializing our time together as he said chefing for me was a Magical moment, it certainly was for me too!!! Thanks again chef Matthew you really made my time as a raw vegan on the cruise a joy!!! As a special thank you I gave Matthew a copy of my “101 frickin Rawsome Recipes” as well as my “10 Sure Shot Ways to Drastically Improve your Health”.

Thanks sooo sooo much Mom n Dad, it was such a amazing time, love and miss you all.

Hope you all enjoyed!!

Raw Vegan in Disney World!

Happy day all!!

Well I made it into the states!!

I am stoked to bring you this video of me and my family in Raw Vegan in Disney World!

P.s If you havent checked out my Raw Vegan Interview or Simple Raw Recipe / Skate Video on Peta2 the youth mission of Peta check the next blog post or simply Click Here!!!

With 12 of us total we had such a amazing time in Disney world. A family tradition (having went once about 15 years ago) we plan to go back in another 10 or so years so the kids can see it from another perspective.

Love it, thanks Mom and Dad love n miss you all!!

Beyond the usual day in the life type blog this fun video will show you tips, tricks, and fun facts concerning traveling as a raw food vegan. Having traveled raw extensively I have been forced to learn how to get my fill while on a budget as well as on the go! While Staying Raw While traveling can be tricky at times, having some backups like raisins, dates and or other dried fruit can for sure help as well as knowing that celery is a hearty long lasting veggie you can travel with. Being flexible and simply buying up whatever is at a decent price and ripe helps tons too. I go more into this as well as getting creative with a few simple ingredients in the video as well as giving tips for being raw and enjoying eating at restaurants.

One amazing tip I didnt really say in the blog is that Banana’s are one of the few fruits you can travel with internationally.

I belive this is becasue they are most often seedless so not a danger for agriculture.

I really hope you enjoy this video tons!!

Wishing you much

To the video!!!

Starting off with my Brand new intro!!!

So stoked to rock the awesome animated graphic intro/outro my freind Mike Bishop and Jeremy Pettit from http://mikebishop.tv made for me as a partial trade for my services as a raw vegan lifestyle coach last summer. Check out the times we had together in “Raw Surfing Safari 1” and “Raw Surfing Safari 2“. Was a blessing spending time with you guys, thanks so much love it n look forward to more times!

Due to the fact that my friend and Raw Mentor Dr Doug Graham has been working on a recipe book (unbeknownst to me) with “simply delicious” in the title I have switch my “101 simply Delicious Recipes” to my newly titled “101 Frickin’ Rawsome Recipes“. I also have been busy updating and expandingmy “101″ book into “151 Frickn’ Rawsome Recipes” with a expanded 2000 word intro in order to be published by a mainstream publishing company.  I am really excited by this, my Publicist and literary agent right now are working to secure a great publisher!

Loving Saskatoon family time, enjoying tons of yoga practice at One Yoga one of my favorite yoga studios ever with the most amazing yoga teacher Britannica Lightfoot!!! Much love to you Brit, check her out at her most awesome expansive animal rights raw vegan awareness raising Yoga site http://hiranyalokalove.com Love love love it! :)

For my Brothers 37th birthday I bough him and his family 24 boxes of 4 different flavors of Almond Milk in order to help them get off of cows milk. Cows milk especially in the form it is in these days is really one of the worse foods one could eat, especially with the foods that are normally eaten with it. While boxed almond milk isnt something I would drink I do think its important to help people by supporting them in the changes they are willing to make rather than attempting to force changes they are not ready to make. It was great to see my bro and his kids enjoying the Almond milk moving toward letting go of cows milk completely. For more info on the horrid realities surrounding milk check http://notmilk.com.

My good friend Brent asked me to come skate his mini ramp in his garage one sunny day. We had a really great seshion, thanks Brent. I managed to get a few fun skate clips along with landing and filming my very first ever switch blunt, seriously something I have been trying for over 15 years. Just goes to show a old dog can learn new tricks!!! Love it!

Showcasing more than a few awesome simple raw recipes including “Passionate Powerful Pineapple Burgers” as well as a sneak peak into my upcoming “Cravings Busters Transitional Recipes” in there. Check em out!

Dr Douglas Graham Rawks!

Happy day all!!
Just wish to spread a sweet new video made by Dr Douglas Graham of http://foodnsport.com

TO say that Doug impacted my life would be a understatement, 5 years into my health journey I met Doug, went 100% raw and was forever changed.

Coming from 30 years as a low fat raw foodist, over 20 years working with and coaching pro athletes, average joes, elderly and the sickest of the sick Doug has debatably consulted, fasted and helped more people with raw food and fitness than anyone. Bringing congruent science and common sense into the raw vegan diet Doug teaches others to “be the lighthouse” while paying attention to bringing together all the aspects of a healthy lifestyle. Anyone can gain from his decades of experience, I feel blessed to know Doug and call him my friend, personal mentor and inspiration.
Thanks and blessings Doug!!
I soon will be carrying Dr D’s “The 80/10/10 diet”  check his site, everything he offers is gold and worth the investment in your personal growth.

My Friends Danielle D, Dr D and Lucas B rawking my 100% raw vegan power t shirt! Love it!

TO the Blood work!! Nearig 7 years as a 100% raw vegan, 3 years of consecutive full spectrum blood tests, I am more than secure in my lifestye. Not that I have had any doubt, my feelings of vitality and wellness ever cycling and growing to higher vibrations loving every minute of it. I feel blessed to have such a awesome MD, Dr Alex, whom has been dillegent in providing me excellent feedback regarding my bloodtests.

If you havent seen my last years blood work video “blood work results and Charlizes 2nd bday madness” I highly recomend you watch it and feel free to compare values.

To this years blood tests, check them out here :)

2011 full spectrum Blood Tests for Chris Kendall after 6 1/2 years as a raw vegan.

When I went to pick up my blood tests the Doctor there asked “Why do you want them, there is nothing wrong with you” ahaha. Too fun, I mentioned that I wished to share them with my Web sites Raw Vegan Blog watchers, they then made me pay for the printouts ahha.

In comparing my blood work this year with the ones last year, that by the way my Dr told me “This is the best blood work I have ever seen”, there are only slight variations of values. Some areas are on the low end for the average person, some on the high end but that said I have never been looking for a average lifestyle. Its important to note that the rda’s as well as what is considered normal Values in Blood work is highly subjective. That is they are determined off of what the average person needs, or has in the case of blood work, to be in general health. Im not looking for general health, I am only wishing to Thrive!

When one eats a standard diet certain nutrient needs go up, namely alkaline minerals as well as certain antioxidants and vitamins. All that said my needs would be very different than the “average” person, much lower in many regards. That said my test numbers meet the  reference ranges for nutrients tested with these tests and by my Doctors word in the optimal values. Its interesting to note that the number of essential nutrients ever increases, a few decades ago nutritional science indicated we had a few dozen essential nutrients while now we know there are thousands if not hundreds of thousands. Plant food contains much more than we know, but what we do know is fruits and vegetables offer the nutrients we need in the ratios we need them more so than any other food on the planet! In fact Fruits are # 1` in more categories of essential nutrient needs in the ratios we need them than any food, and vegetables come in number two!

One value that this is often talked about in is b12. B12 levels in the general public are unreliable to base averages off of these days as most grain products, many dairy products and other “foods” are sprayed with supplemental b12. What most people don’t know is that this b12 to the greatest extent can be in analogue form. That is in a form that the body recognises as usable but in reality cant be used by the body. Because of this mix up b12 receptor sites get clogged up by analogue b12 and can result in poor absorbtion (one of many reasons for this) of active b12. The reality is b12 deficency is common in all types of diet, reguardless of vegan vegitarian pectatarian or omnivor. Absorbtion is as big or bigger a issue than exposure. 7 years as a raw vegan, no supliments, eating simple often one food at a time when hungry till full has for me not only ensured but been proven optimal.

I am not against supplementing especially if fasting isnt a option as that would be my first protocol and natures truest one. Otherwise when there are clear absorbtion issues with nutrient need or clear signs of early deficiency there is no need to be dogmatic and abstain from a vegan supplement that can improve your conditions until proper digestion and absorption can be regained. In the end it all comes to us and our needs/preferences in self care. I do maintain a simple hygienic  diet among other hygienic lifestyle factors affords the highest measure of health vitality and exuberance one can obtain!

Spread this video as well as my last years blood work video “blood work results and Charlizes 2nd bday madness” to those who wish more proof that a simple raw vegan diet can not only provide all we need to survive but all we need to thrive at our highest potential!

I look forward to continue walk the walk offering myself as example, or as Doug Graham puts it “be the Lighthouse” and for those who need it, Proof.
