Live in with Berra week 3

Happy day all!!

Well I must admit I am two full weeks behind! I went home to saskatoon for a week already after a full month with Steve :)

Just now back in LA and found time to get week 3 done!!!!

Look out it is a mad mix of many meals, sk8ing, farmers n wholesale markets, his Bday n much more!!                                   Hope you enjoy!!

Too much to write about, well lets see.

We got some mad transtitional recipes in this issue, sorry I didnt include the ingredient list nor make a video making them, simply too much content with little time as well as the fact I wish to save some of them for my upcoming ebook

“Low Fat Raw Gourmet and  Cravings Busters Transitional Recipes”.

Many amazing recipes that I have tested as well as a bunch from other raw food chef’s, enthusiasts and downright kitchen genies. Time has been tight and it may be a while before I am finished, but the positive is I am really fine tuning some of the best of them so when it does drop it is sure to please!

Steve went on a business trip so Tim, Mark Webber and I went to Malibu to a secluded beach. While there we enjoyed the sun surf some cardio activity as well as some fresh ripe raw whole fruits we brought. As a surprise afterwards Mark led Tim and I to Planet Raw. It in Santa monica and is the oldest, most well known raw vegan restaurant in California. It really is amazing, the chef n creator Julliano makes quite exquisite gourmet raw cuisine.

As most of you know I prefer and recommend eating of a low fat raw diet consisting of whole fresh ripe raw organic fruits and veggies for the mainstay. Most raw restaurants are quite high in fat and include a great many ingredients and “combos” I personally wouldn’t eat on a consistent basis. Reguarless they can be great for transition, squashing cravings, or for the odd holiday/social meal. I enjoyed some “cheesy kelp noodles” that actually really tasted like a alfredo pasta I am sure you could trick anyone in any restaurant n they would think it was cooked.

Steve treated himself to a new car a Ford Focus, amazing on gas hybrid n many sweet gadgets n gismos! haha Love it!

The 10th was Steves bday, we enjoyed young coconuts for breaky followed by a crenshaw/orange/mango smoothie. For lunch I made raw “banana splits” featuring banana coconut ice cream, strawberry banana ice cream and chocolate banana ice cream with both individual sauces and sprinkles for each type. It was a big hit.

Before dinner we went for a nice bday sk8. I actually re hurt my foot just a few days before and sk8ed little, instead Tim showed all us up on a balance board. He stood one one foot on it for 10 mintues and 33 seconds! Used for athletic rehabilitation ballence boards work your ankles arches knees hips and core muscles. There are a few tyopes and designs, I recomend the circular ones with full range or motion to help with ankle problems. that is once sufficient rest from injury has been given :)

For dinner Steve brought us to his friend and accomplished actor (see space balls and many others :) Bill Pullman’s house for a raw dinner. Bill has his own orchard n provided a amazing dinner with salads exotic fruits like “Ice cream bean” (that taste much like cottony ice cream), mulberries, and home made asian pear cashew ice creams as well as fresh persimmon ice cream. It was great, everyone enjoyed n who can complain about a ice creamy bday raw style!!! mmmmm

Much more to come!!

enjoy much

Live in with Steve Berra Week 2!

Happy Day Everyone!

Been a fast few weeks, got lill backed up here busy with the consult n had to put the videos on the backburner!

All in due time, ill be more prompt with the rest, here is my 2nd week with Steve Berra!

Hope you enjoy!

So this week we start out with the slow process of making a large lunch for everyone!

It is simply a sweet green soup, I made enugh for 10 people so here is the basic recipe.

Sweet Green Banana Mango Soup :)

4 organic bananas

3 ripe sweet organic mangos

1/2 – 1 cup raisins (soak half or all over night to rehydrate)

1/2 to 1 head your fave organic tender lettuce.

dice 2 1/2 of the bananas with all of the mango and place in a bowl. Blend lettuce with rasin soak water and remaining banana’s. Mix both hydrated and dry raisins with mango banana mix n pour green “broth” over the whole shebam!

Stir n devour. this recipe is well over 750 cal, I have make it doubled to hit 1300- 1500 cal for my self. You can adjust it to your individual needs and tastes :)

enjoy the sweet green power, this meal will leave you full for a good while!

While preping at the office I get a chance to talk with a legend in skateboarding who also works at the berrrics office Salman Agah! He has been increasing the amount of raw foods in his life n talks on the effects he has noticed. From feeling lighter happier and more energetic to noticing aches and pains mellow and disapear as well as how heavy other foods actualy are and the amount of energy they sap from you. Its great spending time with many of the sk8ers I have grown up watching and looking upto, only a bonus to be able to impact their lives and help them as they have me.

The sweet green soup brought a good crowd of the Berrics office staff. Everyone really liked it and was amazed at how filling and satisfying it was. To finish off the bowl Steve and another one of my favorite sk8ers Geoff Rowley came to enjoy some of the mix. Both really enjoyed it n I got some fun shots with more legends!

By day 9 Steve felt like treating me to dinner and a movie so we went and checked out a little raw restaurant in Hollywood (right by the arclight and amoeba music) called “Lifefood Organic” and went to the “Arclight”, a top notch theater. Lifefood Organic has a award winning Raw Chili that actually has won 1st prize beating cooked chili’s in a cookoff! I must say if you are raw n miss chili (it used to be one of my favorite foods) try this out. It is actually lower in fat than most gourmete raw dishes but is high in spices garlic and onion. If you follow me on the regular you know I am not a big advocate of spices nor garlic and onions for a great many reasons, but do feel they have a place in transition or quite simply for people who aren’t strict with natural hygeine. I myself abstain for the most part but am not anxious about enjoying some while helping Steve.

We also tried a few other dishes which weren’t much of a hit, the Chili is most definitely the main Item. From this experience I got some good ideas to ramp up my own chili recipe to be launched in my upcoming Transitional Recipe ebook. In fact since I have been making more transitional food with my consult that ebook is getting brushed up n added to as the days go on. Watch out it is sure to blow your socks off n help both beginners and raw veterans when and if the times get bumpy.

We have been eating a fair number of mangos lately, It is important to note these are hot water treated mangos. Hot water treatment is a process where the mangos are put in a bath of just under boiling water for at least 30 minutes. This is said to be done to protect against insect eggs and such crossing borders and effecting the agriculture. All mangos shipped into north america are hot water treated including from mexico! The only truly fresh mangos we can get come from california and florida in season. While some would say they are useless mangos or cooked, I have actually found them to be decent quality at times if you know what to look for. I buy them already ripe n look for some fragrance and slight softness to the touch.  I have successfully sprouted the seeds of these mangos n am growing a small tree from one. Personally I enjoy mangos too much to not have some while I will admit one day I most probably will stick to fresh when I goto the tropics or are around them locally in season.

Day ten brought us much cruising around in the car filming for a DC shoes commercial. WIth a smoothie in the car, some tom foolery n fun we passed the day well. We ended up in Santa Monica and Steve decided to treat us to another Raw resteraunt called “Euphoria Loves Rawvolution!”  As with most raw restaurants serve food with lots of garlic/onion spices, oil, salt, debatable raw and vegan items and are heavy on nuts seeds avo n such not to mention quite expensive. I adhere to promote and recomend a low fat raw vegan diet free of such of these items. Reguardless its what you do most of the time that has the biggest effects and I do feel these restraunts fufill a nessesary aspect of transition, socializing, and introducing people to different ways to prepare raw food. We tried a bunch of their specialties ( a little too much) and suffice it to say were left literally drained by the amount of fat found in these foods. Don’t get me wrong some of the dishes were great, but the feeling of being drugged after has little appeal to me and in fact the whole experience lead Steve to realize / know on a body level how much better cleaner eating whole fresh ripe organic fruits and veggies really is.

Its a rare individual who learns from others mistakes or slips right off the bat, most of us need experience them ourselves. Delving into gourmet recipes, conciously and uncounciously trying poor food combinations and even “falling off the wagon” is a common step in applying the raw food lifestyle. It is through these experiences we come to realize/experience sensations on a body mind level more fully which often instills the benefits and joys of simple eating. Both Steve and Daniel experienced a raw “gourmet coma” after the meal and needed some recovery time.

All in time with experience.

Hope you enjoyed this episode, hope to get week 3 and 4 out n catch up!

Live in consult with Steve Berra

Happy day!
Ive been a busy busy bee, my full time live in consult  with pro skateboarder Steve Berra started on the 22nd in earnest n i just now have finished my first weeks blog!
Check the video here! I hope you enjoy it!

I am staying with pro skateboarder Steve Berra up in the hills of Los Feliz helping him implement the 100% raw vegan diet while incorporating other healthful lifestyle factors. Originally scheduled for 1 month Steve says I best be prepared to possible stay 4 – 6 months!

I feel truely blessed as I know with this exposure I will reach many more people with the message of optimal health.

Most of the day is spent at “the berrics” office, the most popular sk8board media website on earth today. Steve is the co owner of  the berrics skate park as well as the brain behind the popluar website. Much of his days are spent in meetings, practicing sk8ing and now enjoying tons of fresh ripe raw organic vegan fare. We have tons of produce both at the office as well as at Steves house.

I have a sweet set up at the office for making breakfast lunch and snack for about 10 of us (plus some common visitors) and serving full time meals for 5 – 8 of us on any given day. Its been a great n busy time filled with buying, stocking, prepping, enjoying the fruits of my labour :) , explaining and going over raw nutrition info, cleaning and getting to my own emails online consults and questions. On average we have been going through 16 – 20 liters of smoothie a day plus bowl after bowl of the veggie dish or two of the day.

While here battle of the berrics 3 is going on, a head to head match of flat ground sk8 between the best of the best in pro skateboarding today. The berrics itself has tons of free videos and will be featuring the battle soon!

Hope you really enjoy the video, more to come n a recipe in the next video!
